Anthropology-Archeology

This program is designed for young people interested in the systematic and rigorous study of societies and human groups. Social anthropology is the study of contemporary human groups, and physical anthropology is the study of human biology in relation to culture. Archaeology, on the other hand, is concerned with the study and analysis of the material culture of societies of the distant and recent past.

Pedagogy in Kindergarten Education

The Early Childhood Educator who graduates from the University of Chile is an educational professional who is capable of developing relevant pedagogical proposals that promote the development, learning, well-being and citizenship of children from birth to six years of age, considering play as an essential tool in this stage of life. They will be characterized by a strong social commitment, valuing and working with families and communities, and by a critical reflection on their professional field, thus contributing to the construction of new knowledge in kindergarten education and, consequently, to the development of their profession.

Psychology training aims to train a professional who is able to understand and analyze the complexity and diversity of the discipline's field of study, situated in a socio-historical-political and cultural context, with a reflective, critical and ethical attitude. At the same time, it is an autonomous and proactive professional who has the ability to study, diagnose, intervene and evaluate psychological processes in individuals, groups, communities and organizations, using methods recognized by the discipline itself and related ones, and who is also capable of integrating interdisciplinary teams.

Social Work

The social work career aims to train a professional capable of consistently developing the main matrices of the social sciences, humanities and knowledge production of social work. This translates into basic skills for research and social intervention. This preparation enables him/her to generate a critical and complex analysis of social reality, to base and implement effective and innovative social interventions that have an impact on the substantive improvement of some of the challenges of the country's social agenda, providing criteria and strategies for improvement in specific social programs and policies.

"I graduated in 2020 and was part of the first generation of the profession after it was reopened after being closed during the dictatorship. This fact was decisive for me when I chose where to study this profession, because it came with an imprint super marked by its history and with an updated curriculum that sought to face a society from a critical point of view. Studying at FACSO was a good choice because it challenged me to constantly question and rethink social issues. Without a doubt, I am grateful to have been part of the Social Work at the University of Chile".

She works as a professional in the SENDA Previene alcohol and drugs program in Punitaqui, Coquimbo region.

"Studying Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Chile has allowed me to recognize the other, the different, as an equal, as someone interesting, that belonging or not to cultures different from mine, I can learn to walk together in the world. From archaeology I learned that our history began thousands of years ago and that if our ancestors were able to live and survive in difficult conditions, we can do the same in today's world".

Iván Cáceres, anthropologist-archeologist

Senior Archaeologist of the consulting firm Sociedad de Gestión Ambiental (SGA). Currently, he is also working in human rights, evaluating possible burial sites in Colonia Dignidad and conducting excavations in the Artillery School of Linares and surveys in Peldehue.

The solid theoretical and methodological training that I received, as well as the Latin American perspective that I was offered, allowed me to critically understand the cycle of transformations that we are going through as a country. Likewise, both the intellectual political debate and the active participation in the student movement that I was part of during my years of study have led me to maintain a public commitment to the country, regardless of the place where I work".

Giorgio Boccardo, sociologist

Undersecretary of Labor in the government of President Gabriel Boric. Academic of the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences, U. de Chile.

"I graduated in 2015 in the field of early childhood and elementary education. Currently, I am working in the field of teaching, research, training and coordination in early childhood education. I invite you to study Early Childhood Education at this university, because it is a fundamental career for the development of girls and boys. As a promoter of cultural diversity and the Mapuche language, I believe that it is in early childhood that something can be done to reverse the dramatic and permanent loss of the Mapuche language".

Antonio Chiwaikura, nursery school educator

Former Communal Coordinator of Kindergarten Education in the Municipal Education Department of Tirúa. Currently, he is a teacher at the CFT del Biobío in the Early Childhood Education program and a member of the Sello Intercultural team. He also works as a Chedungun teacher and provides research support at the Museum of Cañete.

"Studying Psychology at the University of Chile has allowed me to have a pluralistic and critical view of knowledge, and to put theoretical aspects into practice in an autonomous and responsible way. The possibility of accessing knowledge from different points of view offered by the Department of Psychology at the University of Chile has helped me to join multidisciplinary teams, understand different realities and make progress in improving the care of patients in sensitive stages of life. The School of Social Sciences has given me the basic tools to work in diverse and challenging environments in the health sector".

Francisca Cortés, psychologist

She is a perinatal and child psychologist. Currently, she works with health teams and patients and their families who are admitted to the Neonatology Unit in serious condition, besides being in charge of the implementation of the Dominga Law in the Hospital Clínico UC, improving and strengthening a respectful attention to a perinatal loss experience.
